Compatibility
The device is compatible with a maximum of 32-bit/768 kHz PCM and up to 22.6 MHz DSD (DSD512) audio sources. In addition to supporting new high-resolution audio formats across various PCM and DAD configurations via USB inputs, the D-1N also accommodates two coaxial digital inputs and AES/EBU connections.
ES9038PRO
The ES9038PRO, which is ESS' premier 32-bit digital-to-analog converter, is installed in a monaural configuration for both the left and right channels, achieving exceptional specifications (DNR140 dB). SOULNOTE's proprietary discrete non-negative feedback amplifier, capable of operating in the MHz range, draws up to 120 mA from the robust DAC current supply, enhancing this power for output. The synergy between the ES9038PRO and the discrete non-NFB amplifier results in dynamic music reproduction that is rich in energy, surpassing the performance of conventional operational amplifier circuits.
Ultra-Low Jitter Crystal Clock
Recognizing its significant influence on sound quality, the clock employs ultra-low jitter crystals with a phase jitter of less than 1 ps. The design strategically positions the clock in close proximity to the DAC chip to achieve an optimal clock-wave pattern.
Power Transformer with 260 VA Toroidal Design
The power transformer features a 260 VA large-scale toroidal transformer, facilitating a power amplifier class non-negative feedback power supply. With an impressive voltage rating of ±43 V, this discrete non-NFB power supply, also utilized in amplifiers, delivers playback characterized by intricate spatial detail and abundant energy.
NOS mode utilization
In addition to the traditional FIR oversampling mode, the D-1N features a novel non-oversampling mode, which is essentially a non-negative feedback variant designed for digital operation. This mode eliminates the pre- and post-echo artifacts typically associated with FIR oversampling. It also offers exceptionally low noise levels in analog outputs, maintaining consistent levels across both modes.
Impulse output waveform with an FIR oversampling filter (D-1N analog output)
Pre- and post-echoes are artificial sounds generated by data processing before and after interpolation. While they can enhance the smoothness of waveforms such as sine waves, the algorithms involved may compromise sound quality or introduce ambiguity along the time axis.
Impulse output waveform in non-oversampling mode (D-1N analog output)
This waveform is achievable solely through the integration of a non-NFB discrete amplifier with outstanding transient response capabilities. Given that music waveforms consist of a series of impulse waveforms of varying amplitudes, the non-oversampling mode removes any ambiguity in time axis information, resulting in a more authentic and natural sound quality, as well as a broader auditory experience, which is crucial for the human ear's sensitivity to timing.

Utilizes the innovative Bulk Pet transfer method
Typically, USB-Audio employs the Isochronous transfer method for data transmission. However, the D-1N adopts Bulk Pet, a newly developed Bulk transfer method by Interface Corporation. This approach minimizes the load on computers and D/A converters, paving the way for enhanced playback sound quality.
* When using Bulk Pet, dedicated drivers must be installed on your computer.
* Firmware updates are unnecessary when operating Bulk Pet with the D-1N.
Metallic insulators as standard equipment (under load)
While plastic insulators have been the conventional choice, we now utilize metallic insulators, as they contribute to superior sound quality.
The functions for switching lock ranges are designed to optimize the quality derived from connected equipment.
You have the option to select one of four stages for the ideal lock range, ensuring alignment with the clock accuracy of the transmitting devices linked to the D-1N.
